It seems everyone's trying something new this year. Stores aren't content to just treat it like business as usual until Black Friday. Wal-Mart's going back to an "Every Day Low Prices" approach, Kohls is having Black Friday-style sales every weekend in November...and Macy's will be setting up special holiday gift areas in its stores.
The idea is that since Macy's is such a monstrous store, the perfect holiday gifts should be easy to find. That's why the retailer is launching special "Gift Shop" spaces throughout its nationwide chain of stores.
Gift Shops will have what Macy's describes as "fun, affordable limited-edition grab-and-go gifts." The space will be highly decorated and eye-catching, and should, Macy's hopes, be the first thing that most people see when they walk into the store.
Some products that will be available include cell phone covers, dessert plates, and metallic candles. These gift will be pre-packaged and perfect for easy presentation to your friends and family.
Moreover, there will be a whole line of "Gifts from our Stars," featuring Macy's heralded partnerships with some of the biggest celebrities in the world. Many designer and celebrity personalities, like Martha Stewart, Donald Trump, Jessica Simpson, and world-famous designers will have special holiday products available exclusively at Macy's.
And finally, for the holiday shoppers that want to give back to those less fortunate, Macy's is launching International Gifting Centers in 25 of its flagship stores around the country. These dedicated stores-inside-a-store will let shoppers buy unique one-of-a-kind baskets or home decor items to send to someone in a developing country. All proceeds will also go to the designer of the product, who also is from a third-world nation. These products will also be available on macys.com.
As for the store's actual Black Friday sale, expect bigger-than-usual sales and a wider variety of selection as it too tries to nab as much of your Black Friday allowance as possible.
