A week ago we reported that Apple has released the iOS 4.2 gold master to developers. Past release cycles suggest that the release would happen a week later. Apple also pushed out another OS X 10.6.5 build to developers on Friday. OS X 10.6.5 is expected to be released at the same time as iOS 4.2 to fully support AirPrint. Apple actually already released OS X 10.6.5 internally a week ago. It looks like they found some late stage bugs. If all goes well Apple should be able to release iOS 4.2 in the coming week.
The best day would be Monday November 8th. Why? On Monday the Microsoft Windows Phone 7 phones go on sale. With the release of iOS 4.2 Apple would draw a lot of media attention away. On top of that the new powerful features like AirPlay and AirPrint make the Windows Phone 7 phones look inferior. iPhone owners would have new arguments telling their Microsoft friends why the iPhone is way better than WP7 phones.
If Apple is ready, than I am pretty sure they pull the trigger on the iOS 4.2 tomorrow. What do you think? Post your guess below in the comments.
Updates:
Update 3: iOS 4.2 Release is on Nov. 22nd says Apple.
Update 2: New rumor says iOS 4.2 gets released on Friday 10am PDT. OS X 10.6.5 comes Wednesday.
Update 1: November 8 passed and Apple did not release iOS 4.2. So have their bets on today. But considering that Apple just seeded a new build of OS X 10.6.5 on Monday to developers it seems unlikely. My bets are no on Thursday or next Tuesday.
