A story from Germany makes its rounds in the Apple Tablet coverage. Electronics retailer Media Markt, German's version of Best Buy, has published a tweet: "Apple iPad - Ab 01. Maerz bei Ihrem Media Markt fuer nur 499,- Euro im T-Mobile Complete L Vertrag (sonst 899,- Euro)".
What this message says is that the Apple iPad would be on sale at Media Markt for about $700 starting March 1st with T-Mobile contract. Without contract it would sell for about $1,270.
Now before you get too excited, the tweet got deleted pretty quickly from the the Media Markt Twitter account. Additionally Media Markt is still beta testing their Twitter account and currently only has 600 followers.
For me this sounds like a guy from the Media Markt marketing department wanted to see what happens when they tweet about the Apple Tablet.
Update:
According to German site Golem, Media Markt claims that the Twitter account does not belong to them.
Update:
The Twitter account was fake, but Apple is calling the Apple Tablet iPad.
Apple went with iPad as name for the Tablet.
The result is that tons of blogs have picked up on the iPad tweet, giving the Media Markt Twitter account exposure.
As reported before, I do not think Apple will call the Tablet iPad. Additionally all rumors point to a June release of the Apple Tablet.
