Especially the security features like remote wipe and find my iPhone are very valuable in case you iPhone gets lost of stolen, but to pay $100 for it per year? Maybe Apple finally got it and will offer a free MobileMe service option for iOS devices soon.

MacRumors spotted several error messages in the latest iOS 4.2 builds that suggest that Apple will allow users to log-in with the Apple ID into MobileMe services. Additionally there are messages that refer to a free MobileMe service.
A free MobileMe service would be a very nice value add to the iPhone. I do not need email or the file storage, but remote wipe and find my iPhone would be really nice to have without having to pay for it.
