T.J.Maxx raised quite stir last week when the word got out that they will sell heavily discounted Apple iPads on Black Friday. Photos of $399.99 ($100 off) iPad 16GB appeared and then T.J.Maxx even confirmed that the $399.99 iPad would be available on Black Friday in select stores in very limited quantities. Just maybe one or two hours after we reported about the T.J.Maxx iPad deal, the company tweeted that the iPads are on sale now. I congratulate everybody who scored a $399.99 iPad at T.J.Maxx and Marshalls last week.
Today the parent company of the "off-price" stores TJX Companies, Inc. issued a statement regarding the alleged Black Friday iPad deal. Many news outlets continued to report that the iPads would be available on Black Friday. TJX confirms that all iPads are sold already and there will be no $399.99 iPad available on Black Friday.
In the end the whole thing was great PR for T.J.Maxx and Marshalls stores. A spokes person of TJX brings it to the point: "You never know what unexpected deals, designer merchandise or hot items you will find as part of the more than 10,000 new items that arrive at every store each week. That is the fun and wonderful thing about our business!"
Now when you walk past a T.J.Maxx or Marschalls store you will be tempted to jump in and see if their is an Apple iPad hiding behind the $5 jeans.
