I pick my kids up at school each day and while I sit there waiting for the teachers to set them free, I end up watching Youtube videos a lot of time on my iPhone. If I end up having to wait a long time I always a cramp in my neck from looking down at my iPhone.
I have wished on more than one occasion hat I had a holder of some sort that would clamp the iPhone to the steering wheel so I could watch without any issues. A new holder that will work with just about any smartphone has surfaced that clips the phone under the rim of your steering wheel and it is called the GoSmart Clip.
In my vision of something to hold my iPhone while sitting still it would just clamp to the top of the steering wheel rim and be easy to remove when I needed to drive. The GoSmart Clip clamps the iPhone or other smartphone under the rim of the steering wheel between the wheel and the horn button. The downside to that location is that depending on your car and how the instruments are laid out, the phone might block your speedometer and other important instruments. That would pose a big issue for many drivers.
The idea is that the GoSmart Clip will hold your device where you can easily see it for using the smartphone for GPS navigation. I think most of us would probably be more comfortable with the smartphone on the windshield or dash where we typically put GPS devices already.
The inventor of the GoSmart Clip, Jae Son, Ph.D. states, "I travel fairly often and when I do, I find the Google maps on my iPhone an indispensable tool, but I also find it very difficult to hold and operate the phone while I'm driving. After searching extensively for a product that would meet my needs and not finding it, I decided to develop what is now the GoSmart Clip. I find the GoSmart Clip an indispensable travel aid, and I hope others will enjoy using it."
If the thing seems interesting to you it can be had in black or red colors. It is made to securely hold any device between 4" and 5" tall and under 0.75" thick. As far as blocking your gauges, GoSmart recommends moving the Clip to one side or the other for visibility. You can get one GoSmart Clip for $25.95 or a pair of them for $39.95 in mix and match colors.
