HomeAway Super Bowl 2011 Ad aims to make a Bigger Splash then Griswold Ad

HomeAway, an online vacation rental marketplace, announced its return to the Super Bowl 2011 with a new national ad campaign debuting during the FOX television network broadcast of Super Bowl XLV on Feb. 6, 2011. HomeAway debuted at the Super Bowl 2010 with a very cool ad that brought back Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo as Clark and Ellen Griswold from the 80s movie National Lampoon's Vacation. You can watch the commercials here.

The "Hotel Hell Vacation" commercial and mini movie generated a 500% increase in consumer visits to HomeAway.com on the day following the Super Bowl, as well as one million incremental page views in a 24-hour period.  It also was widely recognized by critics as one of the best commercials aired during the game for driving business results and engagement.

HomeAway collaborated with Austin, Texas-based ad agency Vendor, Inc. to develop and produce the ads and related online marketing assets designed to communicate the message, "Why Hotel when you can HomeAway?."

HomeAway wants to make an even bigger splash with the Super Bowl 2011 campaign then they did last year. It will be interesting if HomeAway comes up with a complete new concept or resurrects another movie classic for Super Bowl 2011.

Update:
HomeAway just launched a preview of the HomeAway Super Bowl 2011 Ad with the Ministry of Detourism.

Just like last year, I4U News will be featuring again the Super Bowl for Geeks Guide. Of course the Super Bowl 2011 for Geeks Guide will be all about the Super Bowl Commercials and not the big game. The Super Bowl XLV will take place in the Dallas Cowboys stadium on February 6th 2011.

About the Geek Mind

The “geek mind” is concerned with more than just the latest iPhone rumors, or which company will win the gaming console wars. I4U is concerned with more than just the latest photo shoot or other celebrity gossip.

The “geek mind” is concerned with life, in all its different forms and facets. The geek mind wants to know about societal and financial issues, both abroad and at home. If a Fortune 500 decides to raise their minimum wage, or any high priority news, the geek mind wants to know. The geek mind wants to know the top teams in the National Football League, or who’s likely to win the NBA Finals this coming year. The geek mind wants to know who the hottest new models are, or whether the newest blockbuster movie is worth seeing. The geek mind wants to know. The geek mind wants—needs—knowledge.
