Sony Ericsson offered up a cool Android powered smartphone back in the summer called the Xperia X8. At the time the smartphone landed on the market, it was running Android 1.6. If you bought the device and have been waiting for a new OS update to add new features to your gadget you will get your update soon.
Sony Ericsson has announced that it is slowly rolling out the Android 2.1 update for the smartphone to all users around the world. The time frame for the roll out will vary with region and not all users will get the update at the same time. SE will be rolling the update out one region at a time depending on when the approvals needed are received.
In addition to rolling the update out to specific regions, the update will also be offered to specific devices with SI-numbers that are on a list first. Why it matters what the SI-number of the device is SE hasn’t said. The company has a full list of SI-numbers that can get the update on its official blog post right now. You can see that list of devices right now. There are also Xperia X10 smartphones on the list as well.
The update will add new features for users to enjoy and will be a worthwhile update to apply. If you skipped the X8 the first time around and aren't familiar with the phone, I will run down the basic specs here. The device has a 3-inch LCD with a 480 x 320 resolution. It has a 600Mhz processor, GPS, WiFi, a 3.2MP camera, and comes with a 2GB microSD card for storage.
