There is a trend of quality consumer electronics to get really affordable. You get a lot of value for what you pay. How is that possible? Well it certainly is not charity on the manufactures part. As gadgets get connected you pay from the as you go. You pay for the content that you use on the device. Mobile phones are paid for this way since years. For other consumer electronics this is not that established. Manufactures that can profit from the content used on the device they sell have a clear advantage against competitors who can not. The three holiday tech gifts are sure bets. You almost cannot go wrong gifting either one.
The Top 3 Affordable but Great Tech Gifts:
1) Apple TV
The new Apple TV sells for $99 and gives you a ton of technology for this price including A4 CPU and 8GB storage. You can stream iTunes, Netflix and Youtube with the Apple TV. With Airplay you will be able to stream content stored on your iPad or iPhone wirelessly to the Apple TV. It is very likely that Apple will open up the Apple TV box to be enhanced with apps.
Buy the new Apple TV on the Apple Store.
2) Kindle Wi-Fi
Amazon managed to get the price down for their latest Wi-fi only Kindle eBook reader to $139. I think Amazon will soon go under the crucial $100 mark with the Kindle. Amazon makes money off Kindle users through the Kindle book store. Amazon is also offering free Kindle readers for all kinds of platforms showing that the money maker is the Kindle Store and not necessarily the Kindle hardware. Buy the Kindle on Amazon.
3) Roku XD
The new Roku XD allows you to stream Netflix, Amazon VOD and others in full HD over Wireless-N. How Roku is actually able to offer this box at only $79.99 is amazing as they are not offering a content eco system. The Roku XD is available on Amazon. Right now you can save $20 on the Roku XD.
