Yesterday afternoon I dropped by the Imation booth at the Storage Visions CES 2011 pre-show. The company had a full spread of "Defender" storage solutions, ready for our brave new world of anti-leak paranoia. These drives are tailor made for businesses, government agencies and individuals who demand the maximum possible protection for their data.
The Defender collection includes external hard drives, USB drives and writable media. All come with password protection, 256-bit encryption and an extensive suite of control options. Want to prevent a Wikileak-style data hole? You can set your machines to only accept certain (well protected) types of external storage. Or prevent your users from loading any media from terminals onto external storage. Or both.
Certain models in the Defender line even include biometric fingerprint scanners, and all of them have an ultra-tough, metal-heavy design that looks like it could take a mighty wailing. For more info, check out Imation's website. Or check out the video below.
