CES 2011 kicked off this evening with CES Unveiled and the Asus and MSI keynotes. The Asus keynote was held in the stately Aria hotel (who provided delicious cheeses and lots of coffee & soda). It was definitely full, but I wouldn't call it crowded.

Once the product announcements were done, Asus put on a video that showcased their vision for the future of connected mobile computing. I lost a little bit of the intro (I'm only one man, plus it started right when I dropped my phone into a plate of cheese) but pretty much all of it is here:

I'm a cheap, cheap man, so I avoid taxis and buses whenever possible. The walk from the Aria to the Venetian- where CES Unveiled is held- was a pleasant twenty minutes in the cool January air. Things didn't seem too crowded at the top levels of the hotel- mainly gamblers and tourists. But then I found out that the Venetian had (wisely) corralled all the nerds into the very bottom level.

CES Unveiled is a big event. It features the hottest products of the show, many of them Innovations Award winners, laid out in a huge room. It also features an open bar. As a result, the line to get in was terrifying:

But it moved quickly- and then we were in! And instantly confronted with a dazzling array of sexy gadgets. I'll get to those in my next few articles. Right now, I'd like to show you an EXCLUSIVE from deep inside the tech industry. BEHOLD: THE FUEL OF JOURNALISTS!

It was all delicious. But not half as delicious as the gadgets that followed...
