The Verizon iPhone got announced today and will go on sale February 10th. Verizon has been already selling the Apple iPad, but only as Wi-Fi model bundled with a MiFi device. In an interview with Bloomberg Verizon said that a CDMA iPad is coming.
Verizon's CFO Francis Shammo did not reveal when Apple is releasing a CDMA enabled iPad. We actually expect the iPad 2 already in the next couple of weeks. The latest rumors even say that Apple will announce the iPad 2 within the next 3 to 4 weeks.
Now Apple has to maintain two versions of the iPhone and also and three versions of the iPad (GSM, CDMA and WiFi). Unless a chip company is coming around and integrates GSM and CDMA on a single chip that satisfies Apple design needs. Of course there is also 4G looming. The new Galaxy Tab announced at the CES 2011 will support LTE. I guess though we will need to wait until 2012 to see a 4G iPad. By then the 4G coverage should be large enough even for Apple.
