We've crossed over into late January, which means Apple has officially pulled the spotlight off of CES and onto their own devices. You can't spend ten minutes browsing tech blogs without stumbling across some new iPhone 5 or iPad rumor. Most recently, we've heard it will have a vibrating motor and a more expensive near retinal display. This will necessitate a faster processor (possibly a dual-core A4) and a new GPU with roughly twice the power.
There have also been rumors- one backed by (purported) spy shots, that the iPad 2 will sport a microSD slot. Now a new case has leaked out that backs up the SD card rumor and adds another slot to the mix. This "mystery hole" is located at the top of the iPad and may be for a mini display port. USB is highly unlikely, so don't even hope for it.
More good news: the iPad 2 is close enough to launch that it has shown up in Best Buy's inventory. No hardware details were spilled, but we do know that there will be three models at launch. Two of the models are $599, while one is $699.
Most likely, the $100 price bump is a result of the new iPad's more expensive display and added features, like the dual-cameras. The two $599 models could be GSM and CDMA 3G tablets. But that begs the question- what is the 3rd model?
It is very possible that more units will be added to the inventory later, or that the price points given here will have no relation to what actually launches. The iPad 2 is expected to launch in early April- but the official announcement could come at any point between today and then.
