Big news, boys and girls. The Motorola Xoom will launch this February, possibly mid-February. At the Motorola Earnings Call earlier today, CEO Sanjay Jha confirmed a late-February launch. He then revised that to just "February". The Xoom will ship first in 3G. The LTE version is expected out in Q2. March or May. There may or may not be subsidized pricing, the talk wasn't clear.
Reference was made to wifi-only and 7" tablet variants. There was no set date, but it is possible we'll see a wifi-only Xoom launch at-or-around the same time as the 3G Xoom. Verizon may have demanded a short term as the only path to the hot new tablet, though.
The Bionic was also confirmed for Q2. Motorola's going to need all of this muscle to go up against the twin terrors of a new iPhone and a new iPad. They are bracing for losses between $26 and $62 million net. And that's with three of the most anticipated products of the year in their immediate future.
I'm betting the higher-ups at Moto are wishing they'd been a little faster to get the Xoom to market. Once again, the entire industry is flinching in anticipation of a new Apple product announcement. How much longer can they keep this up?
