AT&T has announced that on February 13 it will be bringing and app to some unspecified smartphones that will allow the devices to be used as hotspots for tethering other devices to the 3G network. Why exactly AT&T won't say what phones, it is giving the feature to is beyond me.
February 10 is the day that the Verizon iPhone goes on sale to the public, it has the tethering feature from the get go. It could be that people deciding between the iPhone on AT&T or Verizon will see the rig as a plus and AT&T may lose some customers by keeping mum. If they don't give the iPhone tethering, they will lose even more.
I would also bet that the plan will come to Android devices too since these are the only smartphones selling well at this point. The plan will cost $20 monthly in addition to your mobile bill and will give you 2GB of data use per month for tethering. The overage fee will be $10 per gigabyte.
