Volkswagen has released both of their 2011 Super Bowl ads online on Feb. 3. The Star Wars inspired Volkswagen commercial featuring a kid in a Darth Vader costume has gone viral in a very big way. In the first 24 hours the The Force Volkswagen commercial has already reached over 1 million views on Youtube. Another 24 hours later almost 4 million have watched the kid in the Darth Vader costume start a car with his force on Youtube. Today The Force titled Super Bowl commercial will top 10 million views on Youtube.
Update:
The view count of "The Force" is hours before the Big Game at over 11 million.
This is just amazing. This Volkswagen Super Bowl commercial is already a global phenomenon.
Whatever Volkswagen paid George Lucas for the rights to use Darth Vader and the music it is already worth it now. Volkswagen is all set to win the best Super Bowl 2011 crown, given the enormous pre-game interest in it. I would not be surprised if The Force Volkswagen Super Bowl commercial will rank #1 in USA Today Admeter 2011.
Star Wars is a big brand and the way Volkswagen has attached itself to it in the commercial is just great. The commercial is at the same time funny, cool and cute.
The 2012 Passat in this Super Bowl ad has only a side role. The pint-sized Darth Vader pushes the car aside. Accompanied by John Williams' iconic "The Imperial March," the spot features the most infamous villain in the galaxy, a pint-sized Darth Vader, who uses the Force when he discovers the all-new 2012 Passat in the driveway. The two iconic brands leverage humor and the unforgettable Star Wars score to create an emotional spot and make Super Bowl ad history.
It clearly has already paid off for Volkswagen to unleash their Super Bowl ads early. The other VW Super Bowl ad is slowly reaching some interesting view numbers. The Black Beetle Super Bowl Ad will top 1 million views today.
