The Super Bowl 2011 marked the return of the car brands to the Super Bowl. The number of car commercials was just overwhelming. The density of car ads made it difficult for car makers to stand out. Several of the 2011 car Super Bowl commercials actually brutally failed in our opinion. Some of them managed though to come out on top. The Volkswagen Super Bowl commercial "The Force" with the mini Darth Vader tops the car commercials. It managed to rank on 3rd place in the USA Today Admeter ranking, which is a huge achievement for a car commercial. Of course the Volkswagen Star Wars ad made already history before the Super Bowl with over 13 million views on Youtube.

The bold move by Chrysler to spend rumored $9 million on a 2 minute Super Bowl commercial have paid off. The Chrysler Super Bowl 2011 commercial is a stunning piece of TV advertising. I see the Chrysler commercial together with the bold Mercedes Super Bowl commercial in second place. The Audi Super Bowl 2011 commercial comes in third in our car commercial ranking. Big disappointment are the BMW Super Bowl commercials. The Advanced Diesel Ad is alright, but does not stand out. I expected more from the BMW comeback to the Super Bowl.
