MasterCard has announced a new mobile payment accessory for the iPhone at MWC 2011 called the iCarte. The device is a case for the iPhone that adds contactless payment capability and attaches to the outside of the phone. The device is able to sync with the users MasterCard account and they can pay for things wirelessly, transmit payment info to sellers, and read NFC posters with the accessory.
The device will also allow the user to download digital coupons and a lot more. There is a lot of talk about NFC and wireless payments recently with Google getting into the business along with other major tech firms.
Apple is also rumored to be looking at the NFC payments category with iTunes perhaps acting as the backend. MasterCard has partnered with Wireless Dynamics for the accessory payment solution. When we might see the accessory and service in the US is unknown.
