The Apple iPhone 5 could already be NFC enabled. This rumor is around since a while. According to AppleInsider, Analy st Brina White with Ticonderoga Securities mentions in a report that Apple is adding a twist to the NFC feature.
Mr. White does not give away what this twist is. AppleInsider refers to an older rumor that suggests that the RFID sporting iPhone 5 could be used for remote computing. Your iPhone 5 could configure a nearby Mac with your settings from your home computer.
The whole NFC thing for payments is in my opinion very much depended on the retailers. Shops need to get yet another reading device to take payments. The dream of paying by waving your cell phone has been around for years now. Guess who was on the forefront of NFC phones back in 2004? Nokia was the mobile innovator back then. Apple seems to be set to get behind it now. Apple has what it takes to make it work, but it also could fail miserably.
