Just how bold does Cupertino feel?
How would you like an Apple TV? No, not another fancy set-top box that merely adds in some content and wireless functionality. An actual television, built and branded by Apple and packing their own proprietary software. It may seem like a pie in the sky idea, but a recent job posting makes it seem almost plausible.

Apple is looking for an employee to help with, "Apple's next-generation Macintosh platforms spanning from notebook computers, desktop computers, servers. standalone displays, and TV." The job posting explicitly mentioned "new power management designs and technologies" as a focus of this employee's work.
This certainly sounds like Apple could be building a new, super-efficient TV with more complete integration into their family of devices. If Apple does launch a TV, would it run on iOS? That would allow their mobile devices to easily act as a remote or to share content with the set. It would also facilitate integration with the App Store.
Considering the wild display disparity and the more limited focus of a TV, it seems more likely that Apple would create their own TV app store. iTunes support would give the Apple TV one of the strongest content platforms straight off the bat.

Apple could seriously bolster the 3D TV movement if their first television supports the embattled display medium. Customers have so far proved reticent to drop the big bucks on 3D, but the market is already well primed to pay premium dollars for Apple products. If Apple does decide to run with 3D, they could be the company to finally push it into the mainstream.
