Specifications

The Gorillamobile Ori is made from lightweight aluminum that has a nice brushed finish to it. The case is articulating and can stand the iPad up in several positions. The case is 7.8" x 0.9" x 9.8" when closed and can elevate the iPad up to 14" from the table you are working on. It is available to purchase right now for $79.95.

In Use

The Gorillamobile Ori may well be the perfect stand for the mobile pro that works from their iPad a lot with a wireless keyboard. The case is very easy to adjust and will hold the iPad up as much as 14" from the surface you are working on. That puts the iPad at eye level for typing and for watching video comfortably.

The stand is made from aluminum and plastic mix and the individual sections of the Ori are easy to adjust and have enough resistance that you don’t have to worry the stand will collapse and fall to the desk. The part of the Ori that acts as the base of the stand also acts as the cover for the iPad when the case is closed. It is covered with a skid resistant and non-scratching foam material.

The case should provide plenty of protection you drop the iPad and it is certainly very useful for the typical iPad user. The part of the Ori that the iPad goes in snaps onto the tablet easily and grips firmly. It’s lined with a rubber material that is soft and wont scratch your tablet. That case section is on a pivot that allows you to swivel it between portrait and landscape modes easily.

The case has a few downsides though. It adds significantly to the bulk of the iPad and it adds quite a bit of weight to the iPad as well. I also found that the lid didn't always shut flat against the screen leaving a bit of the screen exposed. That was a minor annoyance, but an annoyance nonetheless.

Verdict

Pros

  • Works great for raising the iPad for comfort
  • Looks good

Cons

  • Bulky and heavy
  • Expensive

Conclusion

The Gorillamobile Ori is a very cool case that has adjustability you won't find anywhere else. If you can live with the bulk and need to raise your iPad up for comfort this is a great case to look at.
