How long should one wait until filing a report that a service is down. In case of iTunes we are talking minutes. Twitter reports of iTunes Store issues started about 10 minutes ago. Some users seem to have even started having problems an hour ago according to comments on the Apple Discussions board.
I just tried to rent a TV show and it does not download. Some users report that they cannot even log into the iTunes Store. App downloads are also not working. I can log in and browse the store, but transactions do not work. I have not experienced any iTunes issues in a long time.
I totally hate it if there is not some kind of official notification on what is going on right away. Is this just a short interruption or are we looking at a 24 hour outage. Services like iTunes should have an independent communication channel that informs customers about service status.
Maybe iTunes will be back up by the time I hit publish on this story. Let's see how long until I need to update this story. It is now 4:05pm in New York.
Update:
iTunes transactions started working again after about 2 hours of outage.
