Chumby8 Stand Alone App Player Lands for Pre-Order

The last time we talked about a new product from Chumby was back in 2009 when the Chumby1 landed. Today a new Chumby product has been announced and can be pre-ordered directly from Chumby. The new device is the Chumby8 and it promises some cool new features. The Chumby8 will land on April 5th for $199.

The new device has a sleek design with a big 8-inch LCD that is touch enabled. It has advanced features and can run over 1,500 free apps. It can stream your favorite apps in addition to being used as a digital photo frame and a music player. The device comes in red or black colors and you can customize the look with skins from Skinit. The 8-inch screen has a resolution of 800 x 600.

It has a pair of USB ports on it along with CF and SD card slots to upload pictures. The device can also stream tunes from your computer. It also has a browser that lets you click and follow links within apps that you are viewing.

The revamped Chumby UI has better navigation and easier map navigation along with themed channels for content. It supports internet radio and has a full alarm system to wake you to your favorite apps and music. The device offers a task scheduler that lets you set up things like automatic night mode at a specific time and it supports Flash Lite 4 with an update for AS3 soon.

"The chumby8 truly marks an evolution of the chumby device and software platform, creating a more personalized and user-friendly Internet streaming device that will complete any connected home or office," said Derrick Oien, CEO of chumby industries. "We've taken the time over the past year to listen to chumby fans and owners and incorporate their feedback into the new chumby8 and created a great multi-purpose connected device capable of tailoring to all."
