We all want to have some fun with our smartphones at one point or another. There are hoards of apps on the market today and they are not all created equal. If you want a new game or app for your Android smartphone and you aren't sure what to get I will run down some of the coolest games and other apps for you in this top picks list. When it comes to buying a new app for your Android device you can hop to the official Android Market or several other places including the app developer many times. This is one of the things that I like better about Android devices than Apple devices, you aren’t tied to one app store. Amazon recently launched its own app store and one of the best features is that they have some apps that you can take the for a test drive.

The test drives gives you 30 minutes to check out the app using your browser. The app will pop up in a virtual Android smartphone on your computer screen that you can interact with. The mechanics of the games in the test drive are different since you use your mouse rather than you r fingers, but you can get an idea of if the game is worth the download. Amazon also offers some cool free apps for the day as well that you can get for free and start playing.

Most of the games and apps on the Amazon Appstore for Android are in the 99 cent range, though some are free and some cost more. If you are bored and want a new game or app to check out, look at my favorites on the list below.

1. Angry Birds Rio - Angry Birds is one of the hottest games on any mobile platform. In this game, you have a slingshot and you load up birds and fling them at the emplacements that evil pigs have built. The game is a lot of fun, has good graphics and the developer is always offering updates with new levels. The Rio version is free right now and an Amazon exclusive as a tie in to the Rio film hitting theaters soon.

2. Fruit Ninja - This is another of the games that I really like it seems simple enough, you swipe your finger across the screen to slice fruit in half before it falls from the screen. The more pieces of fruit you slice at one time, the more points you get. The game has different modes of play and as you progress, you can use different color sword blades and more. The game is lots of fun and highly recommended.

3. Zombie Booth - This isn't so much a game as it is one of the things that you can use to gross people out. Still it is very cool and if you are a zombie fan, you will love it. The game lets you take a picture of yourself or others and them zombify them with scars, dead looking eyes and all sorts of other touches. This is a creepy app that you will have fun with.

4. Kindle for Android - If you like to read Amazon has a really good thing going. The Kindle is the most popular eReader on the market today and you can buy books directly on your Kindle if you want. The cool thing is that you can access those books using other devices to like your computer and Android devices with this app. The app will even sync your bookmarks so if you stop on page 43 on your Kindle, the app will start you on page 43.

5. SeekDroid - If you are the sort that is always leaving your Android phone laying somewhere strange and searching your home for it this is the app for you. The app will also allow you to find stolen phones. The app allows the user to remotely wipe your phone, locks it and allows you to see the recent calls made from it. It would be nice to bust that phone thief, assuming the thief isn’t larger and more violent than you are.

6. Photoshop Express - If you use an Android phone that has a nice camera, you may have wished you could edit those photos before uploading them to Facebook. With Photoshop Express, you can edit your photos all you want. The app allows you to crop, straighten, rotate, flip, and fix color, tint, and lots more. You can even brighten an image that is too dark. The only catch is that the app requires an SD card to use.

7. Asphalt HD - This is a cool premium racing game that will cost you $4.99. The game has impressive graphics and puts the driver behind the wheel of some hot cars. You can customize those cars and shop for new ones as you progress. The play experience will vary on this high-end game depending on the capability of your phone.

8. Call of Duty Force Recon - This is one of the coolest games you can get on your mobile device and is a must for COD fans on the PC or console. The game has nice graphics and fun game play with a price of $1.99. The tactical shooter lets you use terrain to your advantage and the environments are destructible. This is a cool mobile game.

9. Lightsaber - This is an app of dubious value that has some Star Wars sound effects. It puts a light sable on your phone screen and it goes "wah-wah-wah" like a lightsaber when you move your device so it's worth a mention.

10. Raging Thunder - This is another of those racing games with nice graphics. This one doest look as good as the other $4.99 racing game I mentioned, but it looks pretty darn cool. As you race you can run through upgrades and the game has five single player modes to enjoy.
