A while back, I reviewed the cool Lensbaby Composer lens for my Nikon DSLR and found that it was a very cool lens that gives you some interesting capabilities when taking photos. Lensbaby has announced a new version of that Composer lens called the Composer Pro that promises even more performance and flexibility.
The Composer Pro is compatible with the Optic Swap system and ships with the Double Glass Optic or the Sweet 35 optic installed. The Sweet 35 optic is new. Both of the optics allow the user to shoot an image with a spot of sharp focus and the rest of the photo will be out of focus.
The tilting lens section allows the photographer to move the photo around by tilting the lens body. The Composer Pro will work with any of the optics that Lensbaby makes. It will sell for $300 with the Double Glass optic or $400 with the Sweet 35 optic installed. The entry level Composer will get reduced to $250 and will continue to be sold.
“The Composer Pro builds on the strengths of its siblings in the Lensbaby family. In addition to being a core element in the Lensbaby Optic Swap system, it is smooth, fluid and precise to meet the needs of our community of photographer who want to see their unique visions through a precision piece of photographic equipment. Professional photographers continue to be at the core of our customer base.” said Craig Strong, Lensbaby Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer. “The Composer pro is for them.”
The Composer Pro has a refined metal ball design for smoother focus and tilt. It measures 2.25" x 2.5" and weighs four ounces. The Sweet 35 optic has a 35mm focal length and a 12-blade internal aperture with a range of f/2.5 through f/22.
