Panasonic has announced a new digital camera that is called the HM-TA20. The camera has some nice features like a full HD resolution at 1920 x 1200 recorded in MPEG-4 AVC format. The camera is ruggedized to survive life outdoors and is waterproof as well.
Panasonic says that the camera is good for up to 10-feet under water and is shockproof to 5-feet as well as dustproof. The camera also has an interesting new night view mode. This mode allows for shooting good video in low lighting. The camera has 3-inch touchscreen on the back to control the menus, view photos and video.
"Panasonic is excited to bring some versatility to the shoot-and-share category of mobile camera cameras, and with the HM-TA20, we're adding rugged features, allowing consumers to take this compact camera underwater to ten feet, or even for everyday use without the fear of dropping or exposing it to dust," said Chris Rice, Senior Product Manager, Imaging, Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company. "Plus with the new 3.0-inch touch-screen, it's incredibly intuitive to use to shoot full-High Definition videos and extremely crisp still photos."
The camera includes a tripod stand and has 4x digital zoom. The still image resolution is 8MP and the camera has electronic image stabilization. It has lots of automatic settings and Face Detection. Recording is started with one button and it can record voice with still shots. You can also cut a still shot from a video if you want. The camera also has stereo microphones. The user can apply three effects to the video with sepia, monochrome, and soft skin. The camera has HDMI output too with direct connectivity to your big screen.
If you like the sound of the camera, but don’t want the rugged design, the HM-TA2 is the same camera in a non-rugged style. Both of the cameras will ship in June with pricing announced closer to the ship date. The cameras will come in red, white, and grey for the TA2 and the TA20 will be in orange only.
