Logitech Buys Exclusive Rights to Sell iPad 2 Keyboard Case from Zagg

If you take a look at the photo that goes with the newly announced Logitech Keyboard Case for the iPad 2 you will notice right away that it looks exactly like the ZAGGmate iPad keyboard case I reviewed for the original iPad a while back. The reason that it looks very similar is that Logitech has bought the rights to be the exclusive distributor for the ZAGGmate case for the iPad 2.

The new name of the case is the Logitech Keyboard Case and it appears to be every bit as cool as the case I reviewed for the iPad. The iPad sits in the case, which adds little bulk, and the case will protect the iPad from drops and bumps. When you need to type you can pull the iPad out of the case, prop it on the integrated stand, and access the keyboard that hides under the iPad.

The keyboard connects to the iPad via Bluetooth so no wires are needed. I would assume the keyboard on the iPad 2 version to be the same as the keyboard on the original version that I reviewed not too long ago. If it is that keyboard is very nice even if the buttons are a bit small. It is laid out much like your typical netbook keyboard.

“We have marketed the ZAGGmate case with keyboard as the ideal protection and productivity companion for the iPad, and now ZAGG is extremely well positioned to benefit from the worldwide demand for tablets,” said Robert G. Pedersen II, president and CEO of ZAGG, “This new relationship with Logitech allows us to dramatically expand our global market presence and scale manufacturing capabilities to meet future demand, while continuing to provide creative and superior solutions for consumers of mobile devices. Working together, our companies combine strong brand awareness and intelligent product design with manufacturing and logistics expertise, and worldwide distribution under the umbrella of the globally recognized Logitech name.”

The agreement between ZAGG and Logitech will also see Logitech making the case and will get the case into more countries that ZAGG is in alone. Logitech is selling the case for $99 and it will start shipping this month.

“The Logitech Keyboard Case combines style and function in one great package,” said Azmat Ali, Logitech senior director for tablet products. “This is the first of several products we plan to introduce this year designed specifically to enhance the way people create, consume and communicate using their tablet.”
