I put up a list of the best and coolest Samsung Smart TV products the other day. What I wasn't able to do on that list was go into all the details of each of the TVs. This is such an interesting product category I wanted to circle back and hit some of the highlights of certain models for the shopper that might be in the market and looking for more detail.
The Samsung UN55D8000 is one of the top of the line Samsung Smart TV offerings and it is jam packed with more features than you can shake a stick at. One of the key features of the set is that is supports 3D content when paired with an appropriate 3D Blu-ray player. If you have a PS3, you already have a 3D Blu-ray player and if not you will need to get one and some extra glasses to get your family watching 3D movies and playing 3D video games.
This set has a 240Hz refresh rate. This is twice what is needed to pull off 3D and will allow each eye to see a 120Hz frame rate. The faster the frame rates the smoother and more fluid the action on the screen. This gets particularly important in fast moving video games and action scenes. When the refresh rate isn't high enough things get blurry and blocky.
The TV also supports full 1080p content and will work just as well for normal TV watching and Blu-rays as it does for 3D content. The 55-inch screen is a great size for most people that isn’t too large and isn't too small. The set will fit into most home theater entertainment centers without issue.
The TV is LED backlit for a better image and for less power consumption. It has four HDMI 1.4 inputs, one component, one composite, and a PC input as well. It also has three USB 2.0 ports and has a component audio input and a PC audio input as well. It has a single digital output to shoot over to your home theater audio system. It also ships with the cool Samsung Smart TV QWERTY remote control for accessing all the smart TV functions on your set with ease.
Other specs for the TV includes a 16:9 aspect ratio, 25,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, and 15W integrated sound. The TV also has SRS TheaterSound virtual surround sound integrated along with WiFi built-in for connecting online for all the smart TV apps and web surfing you want.
The big draw here other than 3D and good looks is that the Samsung Smart TV functionality is integrated. This set gives you access to hoards of online content with video streaming from Netflix, Hulu, YouTube and more plus the ability to stream audio. You can get apps from Samsung for other things like weather and sports and the TV gives you the ability to search Google for information right from the TV. The only downside to this TV is that it's expensive at about $3,500, but considering all the features it's not a bad price.
