RIM's BlackBerry PlayBook Accessories: The Guide

What a spread!

RIM's new 7" PlayBook tablet will launch next month. You can pre-order it now, and many of you probably will. This BlackBerry tablet is well worth your hard-earned cash. It is painfully easy to use, well designed and comfortable in your hands. The app ecosystem is light compared to Android or iOS, but you won't find a better tablet for productivity. At least, not until the HP TouchPad launches.

If you're considering a PlayBook, you're probably also considering some PlayBook accessories. Lets look at what's out there-

Official RIM Cases: RIM has announced several cases for the PlayBook. There's a convertible case that acts as a stand and the leather Journal case, which includes a microfiber lining.

You'll also have the option of a neoprene case or a neoprene zip sleeve. There's a leather sleeve, a slip case and a weird leather envelope case. You'll have the option of buying both a textured silicon shell or a soft shell.

Official PlayBook Chargers: You're out late one night and forget to charge your PlayBook before bed time. The next morning, you have a flight and only a half hour to juice up your tablet for the long plane trip. With the BlackBerry travel charger, you'll be able to charge your PlayBook at twice the rate as a normal charger.

There's also the BlackBerry Premium Charger, which is as small as a smartphone charger and designed to fit in your bag with a minimum of fuss.

The BlackBerry Rapid Charging Pod: This neat little dock sits your PlayBook upright while it juices up. Like the travel-charger, it fills your RIM tablet up at twice the standard rate.

Targus PlayBook Cases: Targus has a well-earned reputation for quality device cases and bags. They've got a line of portfolios and case/stands for the PlayBook due out. Their Zierra leather portfolio is especially nice- and comes with pockets for all your cards and stylus. Go here for more info.

The OtterBox PlayBook Defender: Tablets aren't cheap. And they're mobile nature puts them at greater risk for being dropped or otherwise damaged. If you can't afford risking damage, the $70 Otterbox defender is a must-buy. It offers three layers of defense and also has a built-in stand. There's even a clear membrane that goes over your touchscreen for additional protection.

PlayBook Windshield and Headrest Kits: Can't stand the thought of your daily commute without entertainment? The BlackBerry headrest and windshield kits from PerfektFit are just what you need. The windshield kit is ostensibly designed for use in navigation mode...but I can't help but feel there is a lot of potential danger in having such a powerful media device in front of your face while driving. The headrest, on the other hand, seems ideal for road trips and relatively safe besides.

The Bluetooth Keyboard: This one isn't even official yet. But tantalizing pictures of the BlackBerry Bluetooth keyboard have already leaked out. This keyboard will also have an optional case that allows you to clip it to your tablet and make a pseudo-laptop.
