I am currently redoing my living room gadget infrastructure. My biggest struggle is finding the right speakers for the Hi-Fi system. I am a big fan of hiding technology. I considered in-wall speakers, but got away from it again. It feels like overkill. Currently I have two standard book-shelf speakers, but they are just to dominate on the media furniture. There are tiny, often called micro speakers that got my attention. I could only find a handful of them that are considered to have decent sound. Of course I would use them with a sub-woofer to get full sound. The sub-woofer I can hide, but the speakers get a prominent placement.
Below I have listed them and added images in the story gallery. If you know of any others please email me or post in the comments below. I plan on operating these tiny speakers on the cool new Denon RCD-N7. This baby does all digital music tricks including AirPlay and it still has AM/FM and CD.
1. Scandyna Micropod SE
The Scandyna Micropod SE speakers have a unique organic design and great speaker technology using Kevlar. The measurements of the Scandyna Micropod SE are 125x160x114mm (W,H,D).
2. Anthony Gallo Nucleus Micro
Anthony Gallo offers stylish small orbs with great sound. The Nucleus Micro come in my styles to fit your interior. The Nucleus Micro measures 4-inches and contains a 3-inch driver.
3. Orb Audio Mod1 Satellite Speakers
The Orb Audio satellite speakers have also a 4-inch size and come in various colors. Orb Audio also offers a version with two small spheres (Mod2).
4. Bose Acoustimass 3 Speaker System
The Bose Acoustimass contains two tiny (3-inch) cubes along with special sub-woofer. The little cubes come in black and in white. The Bose Acoustimass 5 features four cubes (two pairs) for larger rooms.
5. Monitor Audio A10
Elegant speakers with great sound in a small package. The Monitor Audio speakers measure 140x250x140mm (BxHxT), which is already almost too big for this list.
6. ELAC 301.2
The ELAC 301.2 speakers are not that elegant, but rather small with 121x91x136mm (HxWxD). The 4-8Ohm speakers can take 20-120W per channel.
Initially I thought I go with the Bose Acoustimass 5, but then I found out that I cannot use the bundled Sub-woofer for my Home-theater Sound Projector setup. I really just want one sub-woofer for the TV and Hi-Fi setup. Now I favor the Scandyna Micropod SE, if my wife lets me. As mentioned above, if you know about other tiny designer speakers with decent sound quality please email me or post a comment below.
