Samsung announced the Galaxy S2 at the MWC 2011 earlier this year. Today the new flagship Android phone goes on sale in Korea. The global launch of the Galaxy S II is next month.
Features of the ultra-thin (8.9mm) Samsung Galaxy S2 include a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor with a 4.3" Super AMOLED Plus display and an 8MP camera. Other features include Bluetooth 3.0, HSPA and NFC.
Samsung plans to sell 10 million Galaxy S2 this year.
Why is this important:
The Samsung Galaxy S2 is a new premium Android phone offering the latest technology. Looking at the hardware alone the Galaxy S2 is offering more performance and more features than the Apple iPhone 4. With the NFC option (confirmed for Korea), Samsung is also on the cutting edge of what is next. Apple is only rumored to put NFC into the next iPhone. On the other hand Samsung is not seen to build an eco system for NFC.
If you plan buying a new Android phone, consider to wait for the Galaxy S2 coming in May.
