iOS 4.3.3 fixes Location Tracking "Bug"

iOS 4.3.3 leaks.

Right now even the Sony Playstation Network hacking is not making headlines because of the Osama Bin Laden news. But maybe you remember that Apple had a PR disaster on their hands in recent weeks because of location data tracking on the iPhone.

Apple calls it a bug. This bug will be fixed in iOS 4.3.3 according to BGR, which just received the actual update from one of their Apple sources. iOS 4.3.3 will address the issue of location tracking via the following fixes:

  • The update will no longer back up the location database to iTunes
  • The size of the location database will be reduced
  • The location database will be deleted entirely when Location Services are turned off

Apple is supposed to release iOS 4.3.3 within the next two weeks.

Update 05/04/11:
Apple released iOS 4.3.3.
