As expected Apple has taken down the Apple Store for maintenance. It is widely expected that Apple will release new iMac computers today. The new 2011 iMac would feature the new Intel Sandy Bridge CPUs and the fast Thunderbolt port. Apple could surprise us with some new storage options and screen sizes. I at least hope Apple can get SDD prices down and at the same time offer larger SSD storage options.
There is some evidence according to 9to5Mac that iWork will get an update today as well.
The one product that actually needs an update really badly is the MacBook. As I wrote a month ago the MacBook is no longer recommendable since Apple introduced the new MacBook Air.
As soon as the Apple Store goes online again we will update you on the new Apple releases. It bums me out a bit that my 2010 iMac is about to get outdated. On the other hand I am still very pleased with it. It is fast as hell as long as Firefox 4.0.1 is not eating up all CPU. One last tip, if you are planning on buying an iMac, make sure you get SSD. SSD is the key to responsive computing.
Update:
New 2011 iMac computers are on sale now.
9to5Mac received a tip from so called Mr. X with the four new 2011 iMac models. There will be a 21.5-inch iMac with a 2.7Ghz Quad-Core CPU, 4GB RAM and 1TB HDD (MC812LL/A). You will be able to choose between three 27-inch iMacs with CPU choices of 2.7Ghz, 3.1Ghz and 3.4Ghz Quad-Cores (MC813LL/A, MC814LL/A and MD063/LL/A)
