I absolutely cannot praise Nvidia's Ion enough. Anything that allows my dinky little netbook to display glorious 1080p is 'awesome' in my book. By all logic, Ion 2 should be even better. Unfortunately, that's not what the data says. Netbooked reports that recent testing has shown Ion 2 to be somewhat slower than its predecessor.

Netbooknews has benchmarked an Acer Aspire 532G with an Ion 2 chip. It ended up scoring 3049 on a 3DMark03 test, while a Samsung N150 with an older Ion chip managed to score 3513. It's been suggested that this discrepancy is due to a bottleneck caused by the Pinetrail processor. The whole matter is definitely worthy of further investigation.
