Specifications

The PowerSkin for iPhone 4 will fit both the AT&T and Verizon iPhone 4 smartphones. The case is made from silicone to allow for shock absorption. The battery inside has 2000 mAh and it extends talk time by 480 minutes and standby time by up to 350 hours. The case measures 5.1L X 2.5W X 0.77H inches and it weighs 0.18 pounds.

In Use

If you are like me and end up streaming much video or playing lots of games on your iPhone 4, you will end up needing more runtime at some point. You also need a case to protect your iPhone from drops and more. The PowerSkin for iPhone 4 is a compact and easy to use case for the iPhone 4 that has a nice 2000 mAh battery inside. That battery has enough power to double the run time of your iPhone 4.

The silicone case will provide impact protection and the case and battery of the iPhone charge at the same time. One of the issues with the PowerSkin for iPhone 4 cases and any other case like it is that the charge and sync port is blocked. That means you can't dock your iPhone with a normal speaker dock while it is in this case.

The other issue with the PowerSkin for iPhone 4 is that it adds significantly to the bulk of the iPhone 4. The case doubles the thickness and weight of the iPhone. That means that it makes the iPhone hard to get out of your pocket when you are driving or sitting down. It also means that the bulk and weight are much more noticeable. For many users the extra run time will offset the increased weight and bulk with the case installed.

To charge the case's internal battery and the battery of the iPhone 4 requires the use of an included USB cable. The bottom of the case has a button you press to see how much power is left in the internal battery. The indicator has four blue LEDs that glow to show the charge level of the battery remaining. The case is 100% recyclable and has smart battery technology inside. You can charge and sync the iPhone inside the case when you use the included USB cable. The PowerSkin for iPhone 4 is available right now for about $70.

Verdict

Pros

  • Easy to install
  • Extends battery life greatly

Cons

  • Adds bulk and weight to the iPhone

Conclusion

The PowerSkin for iPhone 4 is perfect for the person who values runtime above weight and bulk when on the go. If you spend lots of time away from an outlet the PowerSkin for iPhone 4 ill protect your iPhone and allow it to run longer.
