A new rumor supports an analyst report from earlier this week that the 2011 iPhone is an iPhone 4S. The iPhone 5 with 4G (LTE) is pushed into 2012. Digitimes reports today that industry sources claim that the LTE chips from Qualcomm have problems reaching necessary yield rates for production.
Even without the LTE chip issues I actually was not convinced that Apple is jumping on the LTE bandwagon already this year. The roll out of the LTE infrastructure is not mature yet. And what about Sprint's WiMAX and T-Mobile HSPA+?
It also is the question if LTE is the deciding factor to call the next iPhone just an 4S or if it is going to be the iPhone 5. If Apple indeed is just implementing a new CPU and a better camera than yes, this would be just a performance upgrade. If though Apple launched NFC payment in Apple Stores this weekend, then I am pretty sure that the next iPhone has NFC. With the added NFC functionality and an edge-to-edge screen, I would call the new model iPhone 5.
