Intel is set to finally get a foothold in the Android tablet segment currently dominated by NVIDIA. Digitimes reports that Acer is starting to sell an Intel Oak Trail based Android Honeycomb tablet in July.
It is expected that Acer shows the Oak Trail Tablet at the Computex 2011 starting May 31. Intel is supposed to also have deals in place with Lenovo and Asus to release tablets with Intel Inside.
It will be interesting to see how Android tablet makers will position the Intel based tablets against the NVIDIA Tegra based ones.
In the same report Acer is also said to explore a MeeGo tablet based on the Intel Oak Trail chipset. As far as I am concerned MeeGo is dead in the water. Back in November 2010 MeeGo looked still promising and we even attended the MeeGo summit. In 2011 that promise died down.
