Apple will unveil iOS 5 and iCloud next week. Software and services seem to be the main focus for Apple in 2011. We still await a new iPhone for 2011, but the iPad will not see an update in 2011. There have been rumors that an iPad 3 would arrive this fall, but the observations in the supply chain in Asia say otherwise. Digitimes reports that Apple has started certifying components to be used in the iPad 3.
The timing suggests that the iPad 3 is coming in 2012. The recent rumors that Apple would adopt OLED for the iPad 3 are also dismissed in this report.
Apple is set to play it cool and let the Android attack with new tablets all year. Apple seems to be confident that the iPad 2 is going to hold up. There could be the first quad-core Android tablets this fall as well as the entry of Amazon.
