Nokia is in trouble. Stock is under pressure and the transition to a Windows based future still takes time and has an uncertain outcome. We already heard rumors that Microsoft would buy Nokia's phone unit, but then what? Now another rumor is making its rounds apparently. The Wall Street Journal carries a report that the markets speculate about a possible Samsung bid for Nokia. Samsung has responded to this of course with "we don't comment on rumors."
A Samsung acquisition of Nokia could make sense. Samsung could for instance shut down the mobile phone unit and fill the void with their phones. Samsung could extend its equipment units with Nokia's counterparts. Anyway it is just a rumor at this point. I have my bets on Nokia to continue struggle on their own. If they get their act together they could make a comeback in 2012.
