Apple is rumored to be in the midst of mass producing the new MacBook Air. My prediction is that Apple will launch new hardware after the OS X Lion update in July, but according to Reuters, the Taiwanese Economic Daily has different information. According to them Apple launching the new 2011 MacBook Air already end of June.
Somewhat diluting the value of this information in is another claim in that report. The iPad 3 is supposed to have 5-6 times higher image resolution than the iPad 2. Either this is a translation error or they really think such a display exists. Predicting that the new iPad will have double the resolution is already questionable. 5-6 times is just weird.
The first generation MacBook Air laptops used actually rather slow CPUs (Core 2 Duo). Apple did not adopt the Intel Core series. The new MacBook Air is supposed to use the new Intel Sandy Bridge CPUs as the 2011 MacBook Pro does. If true than the 2011 MacBook Air would offer dramatic performance in its super thin and light form factor. Additionally the new MacBook Air will get a Thunderbolt port.
