Today, June 15, the 2011 Back To School Promotion is supposed to launch. At least this is what 9to5Mac says that they have confirmed. The Apple rumor source ChronicWire, which has mentioned the Wednesday launch date before just tweeted that the Apple Back To School deal launch is slightly delayed. The launch would not be today. It is hard to say which report to believe. 9to5Mac says that Apple is changing Apple Store layouts tonight and that the iPad Smart Signs get an update.
That Apple will just offer $100 iTunes Gift Cards as 2011 Back To School 2011 Promotion is getting more likely in the mean time as more sources confirm this. The advantage of an iTunes gift card is that it is almost like cash. The disadvantage compared to the free 8GB iPod touch is that its only half the value you got last year in the Apple Back To School sale. From Apple's view point the $100 iTunes gift card matches about the cost of handing out free iPods. In any case, students still get the educational pricing to save on Mac gear.
This year Apple is really waiting very long with the launch of the Back To School promotion. In 2010 Apple started the deal already the last week of May.
Update:
The 2011 Apple Back To School Promotion has officially launched. Students, You get a free $100 App Store Gift Card with your Mac purchase.
Update:
$100 App Store gift card confirmed as 2011 Back To School deal. Apple launches the 2011 Back To School promotion today, June 16.
