Last month we already reported about a rumor that an iPhone 5 for Sprint is already in testing at Apple. Now analyst Shing Yin with Citadel Securities released a note arguing that indeed a Sprint iPhone 5 is likely to come still in 2011.
He argues that Sprint is still offering an unlimited data plan, a thing Apple likes. Verizon is killing unlimited data plans as of today. Sprint also could offer lower prices on plans for the iPhone to lure customers.
For Apple it makes sense to offer the iPhone on as many carriers as possible. It does that in many countries around the globe. A couple month ago Verizon joined AT&T in offering the iPhone in the United States. Possibly Sprint is next. T-Mobile is in the process of being acquired by AT&T. It is not clear how this will affect an iPhone available on T-Mobile.
