Jeff Bezos already confirmed that there will be an Amazon Tablet. Release date and details are still unkown. Earlier rumors from the supply chain put the Amazon Tablet release in August or September. The Wall Street Journal reports today that Amazon will release their tablet by October according to people familiar with the matter.
The Amazon tablet is supposed to have a 9-inch screen and run Android. The WSJ did not unearth anything dramatically new here. What is clear though is that Amazon has the content eco-system and cloud services in place to effectively compete with Apple. Amazon also has collected tremendous experience with the Kindle device. I am pretty sure they know how to do a tablet right that can rattle the domination of the Apple iPad.
Additionally Amazon will release two new Kindle eBook readers according to the report. One will be touchscreen Kindle. The other Kindle will drive down the price even further.
