End of June a report appeared that TSMC is supposed to make the next generation of Apple CPUs in 2012. Currently Samsung is making the Apple CPU A5. Samsung and Apple are facing off in a patent battle fueling the rumors that Apple tries to shift its component dependencies away from Samsung.
Reuters reports today that TSMC is already test manufacturing the Apple A6 CPU. TSMC needs to proof that their yield rate is good enough to supply Apple with the next generation A6 CPU. This means Apple has not yet made a deal for volume production with TSMC.
The A6 CPU is still future talk. The first device running on the A6 is likely the iPad 3 coming next Spring. The next big thing we are awaiting from Apple is the iPhone 5 and this device is still running on the A5 currently doing its duty in the iPad 2.
