AT&T started the sale of the HTC Status Android Phone, also known as the Facebook Phone.
The HTC Status sells for $49.99 with a 2/year contract. Contract free pricing is at $399.99. This is a pretty low pricing for an Android smartphone. This is possible as the HTC Status has not a large touchscreen and also runs on lower end hardware. It's a messaging phone at heart. The HTC Status runs Android 2.3. Features include a small 2.6-inch touchscreen (480x320px), hardware QWERTY keyboard, 3G and 5MP camera.
The special feature of the HTC Status is the enhanced Facebook experience with HTC Sense and Facebook share button. The device's home screen has a huge Facebook widget, and there's a dedicated Facebook button on the embedded Qwerty keypad. Some of the other features include seeing the latest Facebook activity of a contact whenever he or she calls, seamless integration of Facebook messages into standard text and e-mail messages, and a Facebook chat widget.
Amazon Wireless has the HTC Status on backorder.
