The race between Android and Apple iOS based devices will hit another milestone this fall when Apple releases iOS 5. Many believe that Apple will be able to catch up or maybe overtake Android. Today TechCrunch pushed out a story out of the blue saying that the return rate on some Android devices is between 30 and 40%. If true this is pretty dramatic. The iPhone 4's return rate is supposed to be just 1.7% according to a Steve Jobs statement last year.
Recent market share data says that Android stands at about 50% and iOS about 30%. If we would take this high return rate into account both operating systems have about the same share in the market. It also of course depends on how many Android phones really have this high return rate.
