Solar power still struggles with efficiency. The vision that solar cells power our gadgets is just starting to take shape. The efficiency issue is still holding it back from the mass market. Samsung made a new effort with the release of the Samsung NC215 Solar Netbook. Digitimes reports that Apple is also testing solar technology from Taiwan for adoption in consumer electronics.
Besides the low efficiency of solar cells, portable devices bring another issue to the table. For the most part phones and laptop spend their days in bags and pockets. Maybe in the future we all run around with transparent pants to charge our gadgets with the sun.
