This tough case protects well and looks good

The Tough Jacket of the Playbook sells for $69.99 and comes in black or black and red colors. The case has three-layer protection and is made to protect your device no matter how often you take it with you on the go. The cover protects the screen in transit and is removable.

In Use

The Tough Jacket is a heavy case with lots of protection. The case weighs about as much as the Playbook alone so you get a lot more weight and bulk. The good thing is that the case is very tough with three layers of protection. The first layer of protection is an inner silicon layer for shock absorption. The second layer is a hard plastic insert. The third layer of protection is a polymer insert. The lid to the case also has a kickstand for when you place it on the back of the tablet.

That kickstand allows you to prop the tablet up and view it sitting up comfortably. The Playbook is easy to place into the case and fits snugly enough that you don’t need to worry it will fall out. The case adds a lot of bulk as I mentioned before. It does leave all the ports and controls open and accessible when installed.

I like that the screen protector lid can be placed on the back. Removing that lid and installing it are easy to do. The case also has a lip on the front so you can lay the Playbook on the screen side and the screen will not touch the surface you sit the tablet on. This case has no screen protection to prevent scratches. I suggest using a scratch protection film along with the case for the best protection.

The only real downside to this case is all the bulk and weight it adds. I think those that are on the road a lot will be glad to give up some of the portability to ensure that the tablet doesn’t get crushed in a suitcase or in a minor drop at the airport.

  • Easy to install
  • Lots of protection
  • Looks good

  • Bulky
  • Heavy

The only downsides to this case are extra bulk and weight. You will be hard pressed to find a case with better protection.
