The BlackBerry PlayBook tablet runs on QNX. Everybody is pretty pleased with the capabilities of this operating system. Now everybody is waiting for RIM to bring QNX to their BlackBerry smartphones. We know it is going to happen in 2012. Today BGR reports that they have learned that the BlackBerry Colt will be the first QNX BlackBerry.
The BlackBerry Colt comes besides its terrible name, possibly also with not the most powerful CPU options. According to the report, RIM will launch QNX phones with single-core CPUs.
The BlackBerry Colt is supposed to arrive already in the first quarter of 2012. It really is the question if RIM can bring back the BlackBerry to its old glory. Apple is going to have a massive Q4 this year and with the introduction of iMessage will also make an even bigger impact on business users. The Colt needs to be a real sharp shooter out of the gate or its game over.
