The Parrot AR.Drone got now a low-cost competition with the iRemoco remote helicopter for the iPhone. As reported Ternosis, a UK-based technology startup company, developed the new iRemoco toy controller on the crowd-funding website Kickstarter. The iRemoco Controller attaches to your iPhone, iPod or iPad and turns it into a toy controller. With the free iRemoco App from iTunes, you can fly the iRemoco helicopter using on-screen 3D joysticks or motion control. By tilting your iPhone, the helicopter responds accordingly, offering the most intuitive and fun way to fly.
Andrew Ayres and Tom Sisterson, co-founders of Ternosis Limited, are two English inventors, who have worked on iRemoco for the past 18 months. Instead of financing the launch of their product using traditional methods, Andrew and Tom decided to use Kickstarter.com, the world's largest crowd-funding website. In just two weeks they have already received over $14,000 in pre-orders for the iRemoco Controller and helicopter from customers all around the world.
Now they already delivered 300 iRemoco helicopters to the first 200 backers of the project. Ternosis is now offering regular sales of the iRemoco iPhone helicopter in the UK. The iRemoco Controller and Helicopter bundle is available at www.iremoco.com for £59.99. This price includes the iRemoco Controller, a gyro-stabilized helicopter, USB charger, spare rotors and User Manual.
What's missing on the iRemoco is a live video camera feed. This is what makes the AR.Drone actually that cool. If Ternosis is successful with their first generation iPhone remote helicopter the can launch one with camera.
You can watch the demo video of the iRemoco helicopter below.
